I'm Embarrassed About My Acne Scars

I'm Embarrassed About My Acne Scars

Long after the annoyance of acne, equally bothersome scars can linger on your back, chest, or face. For about 20% of people, that’s the case.

While we know you’re beautiful as you are, we also know how emotionally challenging such scars can be. From anxiety and self-consciousness to ongoing embarrassment, acne’s aftermath can affect far more than your skin.

Our expert team at Skin Shop MedSpa in Houston, Texas, led by board-certified medical director, Dr. Tiffany Su, provides quality skincare with your aesthetic goals in mind, including AquaGold® Fine Touch for acne scars.

How acne scars form

Your skin’s natural healing processes unfold after an acne breakout. In many cases, pimples and other acne symptoms diminish on their own within 7-10 days without leaving a trace.

But several factors can lead to scar tissue. If you pick at blackheads or pop a pimple, for example, the added skin trauma can result in scars.

Acne scars are also more likely if you experienced severe acne that deeply penetrated your skin. Known as acne cysts and nodules, these forms of acne cause plentiful inflammation that fuels scarring.

Weakened immune function and genetic factors may also make you more vulnerable to scars. So if one of your parents developed acne scars, your skin may be scar-prone, too.

What to do about acne scars

Numerous treatments aim to improve the look and texture of your skin by minimizing acne scars. For some people, a topical ointment containing retinoids or salicylic acid does the trick.

Wearing sunscreen may also help by preventing added darkness from ultraviolet (UV) ray damage.

For especially bothersome or stubborn scars, we offer AquaGold Fine Touch, which uses microinjections to restore a flawless complexion. The hypoallergenic needle, made of 24-carat gold, painlessly produces 2,400 tiny injections per minute.

AquaGold injections provide your skin with therapeutic ingredients, such as anti-pigment chemicals, vitamins, hyaluronic acid, enzymes, and skin serums. On average, it takes only five minutes for us to treat your full face with 2-3 drops of serum.

While individual results vary, benefits may appear within a week of your treatment and last for 3-4 months.

Making the most of your results

Once your acne scars have diminished, continue to take good care of your skin to guard against future breakouts and scars.

Preventive steps we may recommend include:

You can always consider additional AquaGold Fine Touch treatment, too, for face benefits such as fewer fine lines, increased plumpness, and smaller pores.
